The Borromean Islands

 

The residence of the Borromeo family offers the visitors an elegant and sumptuous environment that conserves priceless works of art: tapestries, furniture, sculptures, paintings and stuccoes, as well as the peculiar mosaic grottoes, used to keep cool on hot summer days. When you exit the palace, you enter the garden for a pleasant walk among exotic plants and citrus trees.
Isola Superiore dei Pescatori, is without a doubt the most characteristic of the islands of Lake Maggiore. Its particular fish shape and the narrow alleys that create the classic “fishbone” appearance, make the island unique.

 

The old occupation of its inhabitants, fishing, is the origin of its name and its charm. Don’t forget to try the island’s typical dessert, the lemon cake!
